Attorney Biography
Mr. Rothermel started BCR Firm in May 2017, recognizing a need for a sophisticated local approach to Intellectual Property (IP) protection in the Shenandoah Valley and surrounding areas. Mr. Rothermel founded BCR Firm to support entrepreneurs and innovators from individuals through businesses with fully developed research and development departments.
BCR Firm has helped successfully obtain dozens of registered patents, trademarks, and copyrights on behalf of clients, in addition to successes protecting other types of client IP. Mr. Rothermel’s vision for BCR Firm is to grow the value of clients’ businesses and support client innovation, and the firm achieves this vision by protecting clients’ intellectual property rights.
Before starting his firm, Mr. Rothermel worked for eight years at a boutique Intellectual Property law firm in Northern Virginia. He has drafted, revised, and prosecuted patent applications in various industries and disciplines, including materials science, chemistry, physics, biotechnology, green technology, telecommunications, electrical engineering, consumer electronics, mechanical engineering, and a broad range of consumer devices and products.
Mr. Rothermel also has experience managing a substantial client portfolio of patents and patent applications, conducting various types of analysis and opinion of counsel work, drafting patent applications from scratch, and prosecuting specialty patent applications. He also has extensive experience working directly with Examiners at the Patent Office on behalf of client cases.
Additionally, Mr. Rothermel provides trademark prosecution, due diligence, and enforcement services. BCR Firm conducts likelihood of confusion and distinctiveness analysis, proceedings before the Trademark Office, and trademark searches and opinions of counsel, among other types of trademark work.
Further, he handles and advises clients concerning IP agreements and contracts, including licenses, assignments, and nondisclosure agreements (NDAs), as well as business entity formation and planning.
