Attorney Biography
Mr. Askerov's knowledge of immigration law has enabled him to effectively represent non-citizen clients in obtaining post-conviction relief for immigration purposes. This area of law is frequently referred to as "crimmigration." In 2016, Mr. Askerov taught a seminar on post-conviction relief for non-citizen clients with the Washington Defender Association. Mr. Askerov's post-conviction practice has taken him all over Washington. Mr. Askerov has litigated post-conviction cases in Benton County, Clallam County, Chelan County, Cowlitz County, Douglas County, Grays Harbor County, King County, Kitsap County, Kittitas County, Lewis County, Mason County, Okanogan County, Pierce County, Snohomish County, Thurston County, and Yakima County. He has assisted numerous non-citizen clients with having their convictions vacated on constitutional grounds and securing amendments to charges that have allowed them to avoid deportation.
Mr. Askerov's experience with appeals has allowed him to secure victories for his clients in the Washington Court of Appeals, the Washington Supreme Court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Mr. Askerov has also represented clients before the Washington Board of Clemency and Pardons. In 2014, Mr. Askerov secured a gubernatorial pardon, a very rare form of relief, for a client whose drug conviction resulted in devastating immigration consequences. Mr. Askerov represents clients in appeals, administrative proceedings and criminal cases. His areas of focus include civil protection orders, DUI, domestic violence, appeals and post-conviction relief. Although Mr. Askerov's primary focus is criminal defense, Mr. Askerov represents clients in immigration cases, particularly where the immigration proceedings overlap with criminal proceedings. He takes pride in providing diligent and thorough representation to each client, leaving no stones unturned and no questions unanswered.
