Matthew Russell, a distinguished founding partner of Russell & Hill, PLLC, brings a rich tapestry of life experiences and legal expertise to his practice. Born and raised in a quaint rural town in Southeast Minnesota, Matt's early years were marked by a deep appreciation for the outdoors. His passion for hunting, fishing, and sports laid the foundation for his strong work ethic and team spirit.
Pursuing academic excellence, Matt attended Clemson University in South Carolina, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and was a proud member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. His journey in law began at Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he not only made the Dean’s List but also served as the President of the Environmental Law Society. His commitment to legal scholarship was evident as a Senior Associate and policy writer for the Journal of Public Law.
In 2000, armed with his J.D. Degree, Matt embarked on his professional journey. He and his wife Carolyn moved to the Maple Leaf area in North Seattle, where Matt opened his first office in Bellevue. His career took a significant turn in 2005 when he partnered with Jim Hill, leading to the establishment of an office in Everett, WA. Today, Matt dedicates his time to working in the Everett and Spokane offices, deeply engaged with the communities there.
Matt's life outside the office is as fulfilling as his professional career. Residing in rural Snohomish County with Carolyn and their four children, he is an active participant in his community. His involvement ranges from coaching youth basketball to guiding young minds in mock trial competitions. His commitment extends to educational governance as a member of the School Board and to social welfare through his role on the Board of MercyWatch, an outreach program for the homeless in Snohomish County.
In his legal practice, Matt specializes exclusively in personal injury law. He is admitted to the Bar in Washington (2001), the U.S. District Courts for both the Eastern (2014) and Western (2011) Districts of Washington, and in Oregon (2014). His professional affiliations are extensive, including memberships in the Washington State Bar Association, Oregon State Bar Association, Spokane County Bar Association, Snohomish County Bar Association, Washington State Association for Justice, and the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association.
