I am a Richmond area criminal defense attorney. I handle all criminal matters with a particular with emphasis on drug crimes.
For 30 years I have defended folks accussed of marijuana and other drug offenses in both state and federal courts all over Virginia. During that time, I have witnessed the devastating consequences that harsh prohibitionist laws and the overly aggresive tactics used to enforce them have had on my clients.
Most of my clients were and are otherwise completely law abiding citizens. Because of this, I am a tireless champion for the decriminalization and legalization of marijuana.
Unfortunately, Virginia seems to be swimming against the tide of history. While states all over the nation have decriminalized or legalized medical and recreational marijuana, Virginia has done nothing. In fact, the number of marijuna arrests for 2013 was 24,776, nearly a 5% increase from the previous year and there is no let up in sight. Many of my cases have involved aggressive and deceptive traffic stops, often for negligible amounts of marijuana. As an attorney and a citizen, I find that situation intolerable.
