Be aware of this attorney
Steve Hunnicutt, an attorney who is a civil attorney not a divorce attorney who had lied from the
beginning. He was only one I relied on for going through a divorce. I filed a complaint against him
for the State Bar of Texas. They wrote me a letter that he owed me money back that I paid wherever
he sent me bills for $20,000.00.
Let me talk to you about him....Steve Hunnicutt was or never was a member of the Prestonwood church
in Plano, Texas. I accepted Christ as my Savior and was baptized at that church in 2004, I have
been a child of the lord and have gone that church since. Sadly in 2016 my husband wanted to make a
choice for the divorce as he was drifting away from Christ.
I didn’t believe in a divorce. So, I did not look for an attorney until my friend gave Steve
Hunnicutt’s business card. She said “Mimi, it is time to find an attorney who can protect you.
The divorce is in process regardless...” That was about 3 months after the divorce was filed.
When she handed me Steve’s business card, she said she knew nothing about him. She said they sat
at the same dinner table at church event. He introduced himself as an attorney and gave her his
business card. That was how my friend ended up having his business card and gave it to me.
Later on I found it through my second attorney that In Texas you must respond to the decree in 60
days, otherwise you lose all the rights in the community assets. That was what happened to me
during the time when I called Steve Hunnicutt. He said no worries on my part not responding to the
decree. Instead he asked for money first requesting $10,000.00 up front. I paid him. He was my
attorney who would fight for me and could protect me, so I did not have a second thought about him.
The divorce process was very sad. The journey could have been very lonely if it had not been
Christ in my life. HE walked through my deepest valley with me at that time.
His paralegal quit on Steve told me Steve is not a divorce attorney but a civil trial attorney. He
had no knowledge about the family code in a divorce. He talked with his friend over the phone for
numerous times who is a divorce attorney to get his advice on my case. Guess who paid for his
talking to his friend? I did. The invoice I received from Steve was cunning that you would not know
what he wrote on it.
While Steve Hunnicutt was my attorney, he never responded my FIRST phone call, text and email. I
reached out to him for multiple times and all I could receive from him was like “I am in a
meeting.” Then, he sent me invoices for the time he read all the messages I sent to him as I tried
to get a hold of him.
To conclude my church stood up for me and spoke to Steve Hunnicutt for his wrongdoings toward me, a
woman who was vulnerable going through a divorce. Also I have contacted the State Bar in Texas. I
mailed them over 70 pages of all the documents including invoices from Steve and copies of texts &
emails I sent to Steve in my efforts to get a hold of him regarding my divorce case. The State Bar
reviewed all then they sent me a letter saying Steve owed me money. They advised that I would need
to reply the letter in a certain time so that they could work on my claim for the money back from
Steve Hunnicutt.
After I fired Steve, my second attorney and I were doing Discovery due to finding my ex husband was
stealing our money for 11 years. I was so much in distress over the whole thing back then and
missed the deadline as to replying the letter. Steve Hunnicutt kept the money and so be it. Be
aware of the wolves. According to the Bible they come in different forms and sizes. Steve
Hunnicutt told me if I wrote a review on like this one, he would sue me.
