Attorney Biography
Michael DeTreville is a Charleston divorce lawyerand native with long family roots in the local area. He graduated fromBishop England High Schoolin 1992 and attendedThe George Washington Universityfor 2 years. Homesickness led him back to South Carolina and theUniversity of South Carolina, from which he graduated in 2001 (after spending a number of years in the work force). He made both Dean’s List and President’s List while at USC.
He was immediately drawn to the legal profession, and served as staff for his mother’s legal practice, an experience that made him appreciate the coordination, cooperation, and skill needed to run a successful law firm. He enrolled in theSchool of Law at the University of South Carolina in 2002, and graduated in 2005. While in law school, Michael served as Articles Editor for the Southeastern Environmental Journal, received the CALI Award for Products Liability, and theLuther M. Lee Scholarship, for which he is deeply grateful.
He was honored to clerk for the firms ofBarnwell, Whaley, Patterson, and Helmsand Richardson, Patrick, Westbrook, and Brickman while in law school, and has been in private practice with Patricia O. DeTreville since being admitted to the Bar. Michael is a member of the Charleston County Bar, the American Bar Association, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
When he’s not in his office, he’s likely to be in one of four places: 1) home with his wife and two children, Isla (5) and Ellis (3); 2) on the water, trying to convince fish to jump in his boat; 3) a barbecue restaurant, or; 4) Williams-Brice stadium, rooting on the Gamecocks.
