Attorney Biography
Aaron Nelson has been representing clients in the estate planning (wills and trusts), probate, tax and business fields since 2012. Focusing primarily on these areas, he is able to provide a high level of service to clients of all net worths, including those needing advanced gift and estate tax planning. After briefly working for a big four accounting firm in international tax, in October 2012 he started as an associate at Merline & Meacham, P.A. in Greenville, South Carolina where he still serves as of counsel. After moving to Bluffton, South Carolina in 2016, he opened the Nelson Law Firm of Bluffton, LLC to serve clients in the Lowcountry. Shortly after moving to Bluffton, he was contracted to provide Public Defender services for the town of Bluffton, adding criminal defense to his practice areas.
In addition to practicing law, Aaron spends a substantial amount of time speaking and writing to educate other lawyers practicing in the estate planning and probate fields. His articles have been published twice in the South Carolina Lawyer - once on the topic of trust decanting and once on the topic of IRAs. He has presented on various topics for the Probate Bench and Bar, National Business Institute, the Charleston School of Law, and the South Carolina Bar Convention.
Aaron and his wife, Lizz, met in law school and were married in 2011 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. They have a daughter, Annie Hayes, and two English labrador retrievers, Ashley and Cooper. They spend their free time on the May River and watching the Clemson Tigers.
