Scott A. Kent, a native of Western Pennsylvania, has been a partner at Martin & Kent, L.L.C. for more than two years. Prior to attending law school, he graduated Cum Laude from Northern Illinois University. Shortly thereafter, he earned his Juris Doctorate from the DePaul University College of Law in 1994. While in law school, Mr. Kent gravitated to the field of criminal law, even working as an intern with the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office. Ever since, he dedicated his professional career to criminal law.
He served as a prosecutor in DuPage County for more than 15 years, where he eventually resigned as a Senior Felony Assistant. During his time as a prosecutor, Mr. Kent handled thousands of misdemeanor cases, ranging from DUI to domestic battery, and tried more than 700 felony cases – some of which involved murder, home invasion and armed robbery. He also served in the Drug Prosecution Unit for three years, wherein he tried numerous felony cases. Upon leaving DuPage County, he briefly served as a Senior Felony Assistant in the Special Prosecutions Unit and the Felony Screening Unit in McHenry County. In this capacity, he held training seminars for police officers on how to properly recognize and charge various felony offenses. During his experience as a prosecutor, he also received specialized training that led to his admission in the Illinois Capital Litigation Trial Bar – which is reserved for lawyers who are authorized to handle death penalty cases. After retiring as a prosecutor, Mr. Kent decided to move into the field of criminal defense. As a criminal defense attorney, he represents clients through DuPage County, Cook County and all surrounding areas – including Rockford, Macomb and St. Louis. He has gained a significant amount of recognition for his work as a trial lawyer, having successfully represented clients against criminal charges and handling appeal issues. In fact, he is respected by prosecutors, law enforcement agencies and judges alike. His experience in the field of criminal law has earned him a place in the DuPage County Bar Association, the Kane County Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, and the Chicago Bar Association. He has also served as the Vice President of the DuPage County Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Association for the past several years. To find out how Scott A.
