About Ellis M. Sostrin

Attorney Biography

Ellis Sostrin has been protecting the rights of injured workers as a Trial Attorney for over 40 years. He received his undergraduate training at the University of Illinois, Champaign and attained his Juris Doctorate degree at DePaul University, College of Law, Chicago in 1972 as one of the youngest lawyers in the State of Illinois. Ellis then began his legal career as an Assistant Attorney General between the years 1972 to 1975. Thereafter, he joined Sostrin and Sostrin, one of Illinois’ oldest and most respected personal injury and worker’s compensation firms. He has served as the Managing Partner for the majority of his career and has been selected as an Illinois Super Lawyer (5% of the attorneys in Illinois) and Illinois Leading Lawyers.

His practice concentrates in representing employees in workers’ compensation claims before the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission, and representing injured parties in the Illinois Circuit Courts, Illinois Appellate and Illinois Supreme Courts.

Ellis is a published author with the Illinois Bar Journal and has lectured on numerous occasions over the years. He has spoken on workers’ compensation topics for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education (IICLE), has spoken for the Chicago Bar Association, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, Worker’s Compensation Lawyer’s Association and is a frequent speaker at Union meetings and Labor/Union seminars. He also gave seminars on the workers’ compensation system for Mentor CLE, a continuing legal education program.

Ellis served as the trustee of the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science/ Scholl School of Podiatric Medicine. He is a member of the Workers’ Compensation Lawyers Association, Illinois State Bar Association and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. He serves as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association. Ellis is also a member of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

Ellis is admitted to the Illinois State Bar, the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 7th Circuit, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois. Ellis is the son of Nathan Sostrin (1916-1994), founder of Sostrin and Sostrin. Ellis is a proud father and grandfather.
