Attorney Biography
Matt McAfee is a partner at Driver, McAfee, Hawthorne & Diebenow. He focuses his practice in the area of real estate and banking law. He represents buyers and sellers in commercial real estate law, acquisitions and dispositions, commercial development, and commercial leasing. He has extensive experience in real estate project finance, including securitized debt and mezzanine financing. Mr. McAfee also represents clients in real estate-backed lending and the workout of distressed credits.
Mr. McAfee received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University and a Juris Doctor degree, with high honors, from the University of Florida, where he was a member of the Florida Law Review and the Order of the Coif.
Mr. McAfee has been admitted to the Florida Bar. He previously worked for Foley & Lardner LLP (Jacksonville, Florida), first as an associate and then as a partner, before forming DMHD in 2003.
Mr. McAfee is an AV Preeminent Peer Review rated attorney through Lexis Nexis/Martindale Hubbell. Mr. McAfee has been named to Florida Trend's Legal Elite and listed in Super Lawyers.
Mr. McAfee is the vice-chair of the Board of Directors of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, a former president and board member of the Tree Hill Nature Center, a member of the Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of Jacksonville, a volunteer for HabiJax (the Jacksonville chapter of Habitat for Humanity), a volunteer for the Jacksonville Humane Society, a member of the 200 Club of Jacksonville and a member of the Class of 2006 of Leadership Jacksonville.
Mr. McAfee's professional associations include the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) and the Urban Land Institute of North Florida (ULI). He is a member of the American Bar Association and the Jacksonville Bar Association.
