About Charles Thomas Wiggins

Attorney Biography

Mr. Wiggins is a partner in the firm’s litigation group and represents companies and individuals in tort claims and business disputes. He also handles criminal cases in state and federal court. He is Board Certified by the Florida Bar in Civil Trial Law, and has tried more than 75 civil and criminal jury trials.

Mr. Wiggins has defended a wide variety of personal injury and wrongful death claims involving product defects, industrial accidents, premises liability, automobile/truck accidents and nursing home claims. He has also successfully prosecuted and defended many types of business disputes in the fields of banking, real estate development, energy and health care.

Mr. Wiggins is a member of the Florida Bar, and he is admitted to practice before all Florida state courts. He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, and the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.

Mr. Wiggins received his bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, in 1991 from Florida State University. He received his J.D. in 1994, with honors, from the University of Florida College of Law. Before joining Beggs & Lane, he was a felony prosecutor with the Office of the State Attorney.

Mr. Wiggins is AV peer-review rated for high ethical standards and preeminent legal ability in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory.

Florida Bar Board Certification in Civil Trial Law - For purposes of specialty certification, the Florida Bar defines the term "civil trial law" as the "practice of law dealing with litigation of civil controversies in all areas of law before state courts, federal courts, administrative agencies and arbitrators."


Attorneys certified in civil trial law in have met the minimum standards for civil trial law certification, provided in Rule 6-4.3, include the practice of law for at least 5 years, substantial involvement in the specialty of civil trial law (50% or more), handling of at least 15 contested civil cases, including cases before juries as lead counsel, and 50 hours of approved civil trial law certification continuing legal education. Attorneys certified in civil trial law must also submit to peer review and pass a written examination.
