Attorney Biography
Loveland Criminal Attorney Ashley (Ash) McCuaig
Ash McCuaig is an experienced, aggressive, and persuasive criminal defense attorney who puts his behind-the-scenes knowledge to work for his clients in protecting their futures and freedom.
Ashley (who goes by “Ash”) worked for years as a prosecutor throughout the state of Colorado. He served as the Assistant District Attorney (which is the second-in-command) in the 11th and 12th judicial districts in southern Colorado, and as a Deputy District Attorney in the 8th judicial district in Fort Collins and Loveland. He knows how prosecutors work, because he was one.
Former Prosecutor
As a top prosecutor he was responsible not only for extensive trials, but for supervising and training new attorneys. Ash is a successful and proven trial attorney, having successfully tried every level of criminal offense, from traffic and DUI, to domestic violence and assault, to homicide. Unlike many other attorneys, he thrives in the battle of jury trial.
He knows how to look at the evidence against you like the prosecutor will: he knows a weak case or a flawed investigation when he sees it, and he knows the prosecutor’s next move (often before they do). This insider knowledge benefits his clients both in pretrial litigation and in trial: sometimes the battle is won before even setting foot on the field.
Extensive Knowledge For A Favorable Outcome
Ash uses his extensive knowledge of evidence and investigation to suppress evidence and negotiate the most favorable outcomes for his clients before trial. And, should the case lead to trial, he is persistent, persuasive, and successful in shining a spotlight on the holes in the prosecution’s case, and in telling your story to the jury.
Before working as a prosecutor, Ash worked in business and tax law for several years. There, he negotiated favorable outcomes for his clients with the IRS. This background in negotiation serves all his clients well, whether they are facing criminal charges or a debilitating injury as the result of someone else’s negligence.
Colorado Native – Knows Northern Colorado
Ash is a native of Colorado, having grown up in Leadville. He attended Colorado State University for his undergraduate degree, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences in 2005. He graduated from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law with his juris doctorate in 2008. While in law school, he participated in mock trial and moot court competitions and was a member of the University of Denver Environmental and Natural Resource Law Society and the Student Trial Lawyers Association.
In his spare time, Ash enjoys all that Colorado has to offer. You can find him and his wife strolling through downtown Loveland with their two dogs (Joban and Josie), Jeeping through Poudre Canyon, cycling on one of the many bike trails, or playing volleyball. He looks forward to meeting you to help you navigate this difficult time, and using his skills and experience to protect your future, and your freedom.
