Attorney Biography
FRANK W. YUEN is a California State Bar Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate. As of 01/01/2017, only 66 of the 18,017 active attorneys in San Francisco are Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate. Mr. Yuen received a B.A. in International Business and Political Science from California State University at San Francisco. Mr. Yuen was a nationally selected Coro Fellow in Public Affairs (1972) for Northern California. Mr. Yuen received a M.A. in Urban Studies from Occidental College and a J.D./M.B.A. (Taxation), and LL.M. in Taxation from Golden Gate University. Mr. Yuen was admitted to the State Bar of California for the practice of Law in 1977.
Mr. Yuen’s goal is to enable his clients to enjoy more after-tax income for themselves, to pass a greater inheritance to their heirs, and to make substantial gifts to charities or family foundations – all at the government’s expense and encouragement.
Mr. Yuen’s office specializes in complete wealth preservation plans including:
· trust and probate estate administration;
· sophisticated estate planning, which includes reduction or elimination of income tax, capital gains taxes, estate and gift tax, and generation-skipping transfer taxes
· asset protection planning and dynasty planning;
· sophisticated use of life insurance in estate, income and entity tax planning; and
· if necessary, trust and probate litigation.
Mr. Yuen also advises and negotiates the sale, purchase, and valuation of commercial and residential real property interests on behalf of his clients. The tax strategies for exit planning include, but are not limited to IRC 1031 trades, Installment Sales, Charitable Remainder Trust Sales, Private Annuity Trust Sales, Grantor Retained Unitrusts, Grantor Retained Income Trusts (for unrelated individuals), Qualified Personal Residence Trusts, and Grantor Trusts and its various combinations.
Mr. Yuen has taught classes for attorneys on the subjects of Limited Liability Company and Partnership planning for the National Business Institute and Estate Administration with WealthCounsel, LLC. He has also worked with both overseas (foreign nationals) and out-of-state clients desiring counsel on advance estate planning & income strategies.
The publishers of Law & Politics and San Francisco Magazine listed Mr. Yuen as a “Super Lawyer” for Northern California in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. This “Super Lawyer” distinction is given to less than 5% of attorneys.
Personal Notes: Frank loves movies and reading science fiction in his spare time. He is also an avid investor in real estate. Frank is married to Mae (43 years) and has a son and a daughter, Erika, who is also an attorney in the firm. The Yuens are active members of Sunset Church in San Francisco. The Yuens are big believers in and encourage charitable giving.
