Attorney Biography
Since being admitted to practice law on December 14, 1992, I have successfully represented hundreds of people who were charged for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). Most of my practice, approximately 95%, is dedicated to the representation of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) of Alcohol in both the criminal courts and DMV (Admin Per Se) hearings all over Northern California, including, San Francisco, Oakland, Hayward, Pleasanton, Fremont, Martinez, Walnut Creek, and San Jose, California.I annually attend at least two, and usually three, DUI or DWI seminars to stay current on the new law changes in DUI or DWI prosecution, and the latest techniques in its defense.I have attended and completed Law in Action at the University of Indiana. This course is an extremely intensive study covering the effects of alcohol in the human body, and in particular how it effects driving, and was taught by the top two experts in this field: Dr. Kurt M. Dubowski, (who is the leading authority in this field), and Dr. A.W. Jones, (who is considered to be the second leading authority in this field). There were additional leading professors teaching this intensive course. This course, which was originally designed and intended for law enforcement personnel only, first commenced twelve years ago.
I was one of only six defense attorneys permitted to attend this course in December of 2000; and only the second set of defense attorneys to ever be permitted to attend this course. In addition to the above courses, I have also developed a CD that is used by attorneys in many states as demonstrative evidence for an illness know as GERD that is used by attorneys in several states including California. It is one of the most effective defense illustrations in the court room for this disease. It is the combination of my education, life experience and trial experience that gives me the ability to aggressively and competently defend persons who have been charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) in Northern California in such cities as San Francisco, Oakland, Hayward, Pleasanton, Fremont, Martinez, Walnut Creek, San Jose and others.
I served in the United States Army with an Honorable Discharge as a Specialist 5 from (1967-1969).
From (1982-1985) I was a reserve police officer, (solo unit), for the Hayward Police Department at Hayward, California. My duties included, assisting with traffic control, issuing citations for vehicle code violations, report writing, and making arrests for crimes including Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or Driving While Intoxicated (DWI).
I graduated from Northwestern California University School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree (JD) in 1991, and I sat for the California State Bar examination for the first time in July of 1992, passing that examination on the first attempt, and being admitted to practice law in California on December 14, 1992 at Oakland, California.
I am also admitted to practice law in the Federal District Court, both Northern and Eastern Divisions, and before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals at San Francisco, California. In February 1997 I was admitted to the bar of the Supreme Court of the United States of America.
