You Have a Right to Remain Silent
One of your most important rights is the right to remain silent and not incriminate yourself. Do not listen to police when they state that communicating with them will make things easier for you. Police can lie to you without getting in trouble for it. For example, the first thing a police officer will ask if you have been pulled over on suspicion of driving while intoxicated is, "Have you been drinking?" If you answer by saying you have had a few drinks, you have just given the police officer evidence that can be used against you.
If a police officer pulls you over, it's important to be polite and respectful. Simply inform the officer that you would like to invoke your right to remain silent. Anything you say to the cops can and will be used against you.
