Karen Akiens is Double Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in the areas of Estate Planning and Probate, and Tax Law. She also received an Estate Planning Certificate in January 1999 from the same school. She is the managing Attorney in Akiens Law Firm PLLC. She practiced as an attorney in Philadelphia before moving to Houston in 1999. She limits her practice to the following areas of law: asset protection, estate and gift tax, wills and trusts, estate and probate administration, and business planning for contracts, formations, mergers, spin-offs, conversions, and buying and selling. From 1983 to 1987 she served in the US Navy as an air crewman and jet mechanic. She received an Honorable Discharge and a Cold War Recognition Certificate from Congress for her service. She lives with her family in Magnolia, Texas. The motto she lives by is do unto others as you would have them do unto you. When she completes an analysis of a client's estate she gives the client recommendations of what could be done to improve their asset protection capabilities while minimizing any tax impact. These recommendations are the same actions she would take if she had the same mix of assets in her estate as what was located in the client's estate.
