Attorney Biography
Marissa Yates is a trial attorney at DM Injury Law who is dedicated to representing plaintiffs in personal injury cases. Drawing on her background in law enforcement, she brings a distinctive perspective to investigating issues of fault and liability and building strong, evidence-driven claims for her clients.
Before entering the legal profession, Marissa spent nearly ten years serving as a police officer in the Kansas City area. During that time, she developed extensive investigative skills and a strong ability to advocate for victims—experience she now applies daily in her personal injury practice. Her law enforcement training also shaped her ability to assess cases with fairness, composure, and compassion, and it fuels her commitment to representing first responders injured in the line of duty.
Marissa understands the profound impact legal outcomes can have on her clients’ futures and is determined to help them stand on equal footing with insurance companies that too often prioritize profits over people. As a former collegiate athlete, she values discipline and perseverance, and as a single mother who worked her way through law school, she has a deep appreciation for the importance of financial security. That perspective drives her to pursue every dollar her clients are entitled to.
Born in Pennsylvania and raised in Overland Park, Kansas, Marissa graduated magna cum laude from Rockhurst University before earning her Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri–Kansas City. Outside the courtroom, she enjoys spending time with her son and friends.
