Board Certified Specialist in Immigration Law in North Carolina - On March 6, 1997, Immigration Law was approved as the sixth specialty area in North Carolina. Thereafter, the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization designated immigration law as a field of law for certification of specialists under the North Carolina Plan of Legal Specialization.

State Bar Rules, Ch. 1, Subch. D, .2602 defines the specialty of immigration law as the "practice of law dealing with obtaining and retaining permission to enter and remain in the United States including, but not limited to, such matters as visas, changes of status, deportation and exclusion, naturalization, appearances before courts and governmental agencies, and protection of constitutional rights."
