Attorney Biography
Attorney Jayne Gilbert was born and raised in Mount Vernon. She is the mother of two boys, Ty Matheson Howson and Bryan Marsh Howson and has two granddaughters, Layla Kaylee and Lynnzi Dawn Howson.
Jayne attended the University of Washington and graduated with a degree in History in 1986. She then went to the UW Law School, graduating in 1989. While at the UW Law School, she revived the legal fraternity of Phi Delta Phi and formed several co-ed and women’s competitive intramural teams for softball and volleyball – winning titles in both sports. After law school, she took a job in Alaska doing primarily insurance defense and appellate work as a member of the U.S. District Court of Alaska.
Jayne then moved to Los Angeles where she passed the bar in 1991. In 1995, she began practicing law in Washington as a general practitioner with her brother Warren and her father Warren "Bud" Gilbert in their family law practice.
Jayne moved to Savary Island, British Columbia, in 2001 and did not return until 2007. She "reactivated" her license in 2011 and has been practicing primarily in the areas of probate, estate planning, trusts, guardianships, and wills.
Jayne is a member of the WSBA Family Law Section, the Real Property, Probate and Trust Section and the Solo, Small Firm Section. She is also a member of the Northwest Washington Estate Planning Council, the Skagit County Bar Association, the Washington Bar Association, and the California Bar Association.
Jayne has also been a speaker on the subject of ethics in probate administration.
