Biography

Mr. Petro is a founding partner and heads the workers’ compensation department of the firm.  He has limited his practice to handling workers’ compensation cases over the past 35+ years.  Mr. Petro is certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Workers’ Compensation Law Attorney and has held this certification since its inception in 1998.  This is the highest specialty certification available to New Jersey workers’ compensation lawyers.

He has been named in Best Lawyers in America® since 1995 and is the only attorney in the Atlantic City metro who has this distinction. Mr. Petro also has  been selected to the New Jersey Super Lawyer® list for 14 consecutive years, an honor that no more than five percent of the State’s lawyers receive.

He has an “A/V” rating from the world’s leading lawyer referral service, Martindale-Hubbell.

Mr. Petro has been one of only three Presidents of the leading professional organization for New Jersey workers’ compensation lawyers and judges, The Justice James H. Coleman, Jr. New Jersey Workers’ Compensation American Inn of Court, which has a membership of approximately 150 lawyers and judges throughout the State. Unfortunately, many of these fears are unfounded as they are based on misconceptions about the law, the process, and supposed repercussions. One misconception that we hear far too often is that the filing of a (legitimate) worker’s comp claim will jeopardize a person’s hard-earned retirement benefits and perks, that they are otherwise due to receive upon retirement.

When Does an Illness Qualify for Workers’ Compensation?

Workers’ compensation is a type of employment insurance that provides coverage to workers suffering work-related injuries or illnesses. Workers’ comp provides compensation for lost wages and medical bills, and it doesn’t even matter whether the illness was your fault or your company’s.
