Lawrence Meltzer graduated from the American University in Washington, D.C. in 1994 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. After working in the private sector for a couple of years, Lawrence was accepted into Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad Law Center in 1996. Lawrence graduated from Nova Southeastern University School of Law and achieved his juris doctor in May of 1999.
After completing law school Lawrence practiced civil law until 2001 when he was offered the position of Assistant State Attorney with the Broward County State Attorney’s Office.
Lawrence’s tenure with the State Attorney’s Office started in the County Court Division in which he prosecuted misdemeanor crimes such as DUI, Reckless driving, Battery, Assault, Thefts and Juvenile Delinquency/Dependency related crimes.
During his time in county court, Lawrence Meltzer tried over 60 jury trials. Most of which were DUI offenses, therefor the experience allowed him to develop an extensive knowledge of DUI law and specific issues dealing with sobriety tests such as, breath testing, urine testing and impairment by alcohol.
Lawrence has participated in well over 45 felony trials through verdict during his time in the Felony Trial Unit, which includes trials for Felony DUI, DUI With Serious Bodily Injury, Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Death or Injury, Murder, Armed Robbery with a Firearm, Armed Kidnapping and Drug Trafficking.
In 2005, Meltzer left the prosecution side of criminal law and was hired as lead trial counsel for the Broward County Office of The Ticket Clinic. There he defended many clients on misdemeanor and felony DUI charges and represented clients on criminal traffic offenses and violations.
After 6 years and thousands of cases later, Lawrence Meltzer was hired at Parks & Braxton, P.A., a law firm dedicated to defending DUI through out the sate of Florida.
When Lawrence Meltzer initially met Steven Bell in 2005 as an Assistant Public Defender where they were assigned to the very same courtroom, their respect grew based on each other’s legal acumen, dedication to ethics, trial skill and overall legal professionalism.
It eventually became clear that each had the same vision of what a lawyer’s core value’s should be and how a law firm could be founded based on these values. Sparking the creating of Meltzer & Bell P.A, DUI & Criminal Trial Lawyers.
